About
I coach an U12 team. We generally train twice a week on a half-pitch. A few tips: When I'm the coach alone, I make sure I have a clear plan in mind beforehand about how I want to organize the training. It's important not to waste too much time setting up the cones between drills. If possible, I set up cones for multiple drills during the warm-up. If we have two coaches on the pitch, we split the training group into two if the drills allow. We each do a drill with our group and switch groups after 10-15 minutes. This allows us to focus more on the individual players. Age Characteristics Some of the team is playing on a full pitch for the first time. This allows children of this age to quickly improve their resilience. Their coordination improves, allowing them to learn almost all techniques. The children also ask for this, as they are eager to learn. More intensive training is therefore possible, although it remains difficult to maintain concentration for an entire training session. Learning through practice now becomes the starting point. Socially, team spirit now takes precedence over self-esteem. Learning Objectives The number of techniques to be learned is expanded and refined. Passing moves, defensive techniques, passing and receiving techniques are included in many training sessions. Playing on a large pitch requires teamwork. Therefore, the focus will be on, among other things, exploiting simple numerical advantages and building play.
