About
I coach an U14 team. In this age group, training typically takes place twice a week on half a pitch. My experiences: In this age group, performance becomes increasingly important. This means that players, trainers, and coaches increasingly focus on match results rather than developing players. The danger here is that coaches want to adapt their training to the needs of the moment. "We're not scoring enough, so we're only going to finish on goal!" Age characteristics Physically, there can be significant individual differences in this age group. Therefore, it's important to properly manage the workload. The "why" becomes a factor. Children can learn to think along and communicate during this phase. In this age group, the ability to assess (form your own opinion) grows. The reasoning behind this "why" also plays a role. The children increasingly understand how to act in possession and out of possession. Competition often drives the game experience, and it's important to curb the egocentric drive for achievement. Children are eager to excel, especially in a group. Their need for self-assertion and the urge to compare themselves to others increases. Objectives This phase focuses primarily on further developing techniques. However, developing game insight also requires attention. After all, players are becoming physically stronger and faster, which means they need to make faster and better decisions.
